Interleukin-6 overproduction correlates with disease activity and severity in juvenile idiopathic arthritis

چکیده
Results The patients with active disease had greater IL-6 levels than did the patients with inactive disease (p=0.002) and controls (p=0.006).The cutoff value for active disease obtained from the ROC curve was 8,33pg/ml. During the active stage of the disease IL-6 levels were significantly higher in both systemic and polyarticular patients than in the oligoarticular patients. Serum IL-6 concentrations of active oligoarticular patients were not significantly different from those of controls (p=0.078). Levels of circulating IL-6 were elevated in patients with severe and moderate disease activity (JADAS27>10) compared with those of low disease activity (JADAS27≤10) (p=0.010) and controls (p=0.002). In our patients the circulating IL-6 values were significantly correlated with JADAS27 score (r=0.49; p<0.01), ESR (r=0.38; p<0.01), CRP (r=0.33; p=0.01) and with hemoglobin levels (r= -0.30; p=0.02).

Tocilizumab in the treatment of systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis
Systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis is one of the common rheumatic diseases in childhood and characterized by spiking fever, evanescent skin rash, lymphadenopathy, hepatosplenomegaly, and serositis, in addition to arthritis. Children with systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis often show growth retardation and developmental abnormality, as well as macrophage activation syndrome, a life-threa...

Background: Systemic-onset Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (SoJIA) is an autoinflammatory disease with complex genetic trait starts in children less than 16 years of age with fever and cutaneous rash. Despite, the main genetic factors that may play a role in SoJIA have not yet been identified. High level of interleukin-1beta in the blood of SoJIA patients has been reported. The production and sec...

Background Many pediatric rheumatic diseases persist into adulthood, with negative squeal from the disease or its treatment. We aimed to assess health related quality of life in a group of children with rheumatic diseases and its relation to disease activity and functional disability. Materials and Methods Fifty one patients were divided into three groups: Group 1 includes 27 patients diagnose...
متن کاملThe correlations of serum interleukin-6 (il-6) levels and serum soluble il-6 receptor levels with disease activity in systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis patients with and without tocilizumab treatment
Introduction Interleukin-6 (IL-6) and soluble IL-6 receptor (sIL-6R) have been demonstrated to play a significant role as inflammatory mediators in systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (SJIA). Tocilizumab, a humanized anti-IL-6 receptor antibody, becomes a new biologic treatment for SJIA nowadays but the correlation of serum IL-6 levels and serum sIL-6R levels with disease activity in SJIA wi...
متن کاملSensitivity and specificity of adenosine deaminase in diagnosis of juvenile idiopathic arthritis
Background :Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) is one of the most common chronic rheumatic diseases in children with unknown etiology and pathogenesis. It also has no diagnostic test and its clinical diagnosis is made through ruling out other types of arthritis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the level of ADA (Adenosine Deaminase) in the serum of JIA patients and to compare it with th...
